Stories like these make me wonder why I didn’t specialize in anything other than video games as a youngster.

So, those years are behind me, and what do I have to show? Nothing, at least not till my kid grows up and I can punish him in Call of Duty.

Well, a clever youth called Winston had the perfect idea when he spent his adolescence years studying automobiles and becoming a technician, with an apparent specialization in electric vehicles.

The tale of how the 18-year-old rebuilt a 2018 Tesla Model 3 was published on the YouTube channel Wham Baam Teslacam.

When asked about the teen’s condition, the presenter said, “Winston bought this totaled Model 3 from a wrecking yard and rebuilt it himself in his garage.”

“Once the car was entirely restored, he connected in his USB drive and downloaded the film saved locally on the Tesla’s computer, exposing how the vehicle had been damaged.

“The footage shows the former owner driving along when another car suddenly appeared from the right with no opportunity to stop.”

Commenting: “The Tesla driver T-boned the other driver on the driver’s side, the Tesla was a total loss and was sold to Winston by Geico Insurance – Winston won the auction for $15,000 before setting out to build the cheapest Tesla in the US.”

That isn’t entirely accurate, since Winston’s parents owned the Tesla, and he opted to restore it for them.

He elaborated on his own YouTube channel, WinstonsGarage.

His bio said, “I repaired a Tesla Model 3 for my parents, and we’ve been driving it for a few months now! I plan to put another Tesla onto the channel and rebuild it sometime, but we’ll see.

Knowing how to restart a Tesla must have placed him on Elon Musk’s radar if he is ever looking for an intern, right? Well, he applied, so we’ll see!

Anyway, the clip surprised the young guy, who was able to restart the automobile.

He added that he spent around $25,000 on the whole endeavor, which included $15,000 for the purchase and an extra $9,000 for replacement components, with $1,000 going to the taxman.

It meant that he saved his parents a lot of money, since it turned out to be $27,000 less than the latest Model 3, which costs about $52,000.
