Last September, AMC Networks launched the ad-supported version of its streaming service AMC+. The new tier will cost $4.99 a month and feature a “light ad load” of less than five minutes of commercials every hour.
Now, AMC has announced that Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited will be ad-supported.
Streaming services and clients alike have adjusted to rising inflation over the last year. A combination of streamers raising costs and users attempting to budget has resulted in rising interest in ad-supported video on demand, or AVOD, and free ad-supported streaming television, or FAST.
TiVo’s Video Trends research shows that time spent watching AVOD and FAST services increased by 6% between 2022 and 2023. In addition, ad-supported levels of subscription video on demand (SVOD) providers have grown. Netflix, Peacock, Hulu, Paramount+, and Max have all claimed an increase in ad-supported tier members.

AMC stated that the new tier will include the same episodes and movies as the ad-free version, as well as AMC’s original series and franchises such as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, A Discovery of Witches, and Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.
You can still subscribe to AMC+’s ad-free version for $8.99 per month, or $83.88 annually. Shudder and other ad-supported services’ prices have yet to be disclosed. AMC has also not established a date for when these plans would be launched.
