Carrie Underwood, a country singer, was forced to perform a cappella during President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday owing to audio issues.
Following Trump’s inauguration address, the former American Idol winner performed “America The Beautiful” with the Armed Forces Chorus. Standing on stage in quiet for more than a minute, it was evident there were audio issues in the room. A beat of music began before abruptly ending.
Before singing the song a cappella, Underwood asked the audience to assist her out by knowing the lyrics. The crowd, including outgoing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, joined her in singing the patriotic hymn. Following her performance, Underwood greeted both Biden and Trump, who appeared to exchange encouraging words.

Fans’ disbelief is understandable given the “Before He Cheats” singer’s history of non-political behavior and past barbs at Trump. In 2017, Underwood mocked Trump on stage during a CMA Awards performance as part of a parody song with Brad Paisley.
Underwood isn’t the only performer getting criticism for participating in inauguration events. Fans chastised rapper-turned-mogul Snoop Dogg for playing at the Crypto Ball, which took place in Washington, D.C. prior to Trump’s inauguration. Snoop has a long history of criticizing Trump, and he previously made a video for his “Nightfall Remix” of BADBADNOTGOOD’s “Lavendar,” in which he shoots a toy gun at a Trump imposter.
Trump was sworn in Monday at noon local time at an inauguration ceremony that was moved inside the Capitol Rotunda due to inclement weather in Washington.
