Embracing New Opportunities and Inspiring Others Through Her Journey

Trina Braxton, a multi-talented entertainer born in Severn, Maryland, and raised in Georgia, has made her mark in both the music and television scenes. Coming from a close-knit family of musical powerhouses, Trina is part of the iconic Braxton clan, which includes her Grammy-winning sister, Toni Braxton. Growing up surrounded by talent, Trina stepped into the spotlight as a member of the R&B group The Braxtons, where she and her sisters brought smooth harmonies and soulful vibes to the game. Known for blending their unique sound with hip-hop and R&B culture, they quickly gained recognition and carved out their space in the industry.

In 1989, sisters Trina, Toni, Traci, Towanda, and Tamar Braxton landed their first record deal with Arista Records, kicking off their journey in the music scene. Their debut single, “Good Life,” set the stage for their rise to success, leading to hits like “So Many Ways,” “Only Love,” “The Boss,” and “Slow Flow,” which solidified their place in the R&B world.

After Toni went solo in 1991, Trina and her sisters held it down as backup singers for Toni’s first U.S. tour, music videos, and appearances. The Braxton sisters even starred in the iconic music video for Toni’s hit “Seven Whole Days.” In 1996, Trina and her sisters made a major comeback with their album So Many Ways, featuring the lead single of the same name. Dropping on August 13th, the album climbed to No. 26 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The Braxtons dropped a slick music video for the single, directed by Cameron Casey and starring a young Mekhi Phifer. That same year, they hit the stage at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, performing a remixed version of “So Many Ways” alongside none other than Jay-Z, adding some hip-hop heat to their R&B vibes.

After making waves in the music industry, Trina Braxton transitioned into acting, starring as Tracy Stevens in Tyler Perry’s 2004 play Meet the Browns. She also hit the stage in Rise, written by Salt from Salt-N-Pepa and Christopher “Play” Martin of Kid ‘n Play, and took on the role of Deena Jones in an off-Broadway production of Dreamgirls. That same year, she appeared in The Walk alongside Eva Pigford and Regina Belle and co-starred in independent films like Jail Party. Trina also hosted the unaired Urban Idol for UPN, showcasing her versatility. By 2009, she became the lead vocalist for the wedding band “Simply Irresistible” and made a cameo in Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself, performing with Mary J. Blige’s character. In 2011, Trina rejoined her sisters for the popular reality show Braxton Family Values on WE tv, which aired over 150 episodes from 2011 to 2020. As of early 2024, the show has signed on for another season, further extending Trina’s influence in the entertainment industry.

Trina identifies the COVID-19 pandemic as the most pivotal moment in her career. With everything shut down, she faced significant losses, including the cancellation of Braxton Family Values, her role as a talk show host on Sister Circle, and her restaurant, Bar Chix. This challenging time provided Trina with the opportunity to reflect on her aspirations and what she truly wanted for herself and her career, separate from her family. Through this period of self-reflection, she realized her desire to become a creator and embrace her creativity. Trina learned to build confidence in herself, recognizing her capabilities, the achievements she could attain, and the meaningful conversations she could engage in with others. She emphasizes, “I have learned to have confidence within myself in any space I’m in.”
