According to officials, Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan overdosed on drugs accidentally and passed away in Georgia last month.

The musician, who made his hip-hop debut over ten years ago, was murdered by the “combination of toxic effects from fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine,” according to a statement released by the Fulton County Medical Examiner to NBC News on Wednesday.

The medical examiner concluded that the death was the result of an accident.

The rapper’s passing was reported to the staff of Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital on September 5, according to a statement released by the medical examiner.

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Rich Homie Quan was thirty-three.

With the song “Type of Way” more than ten years ago, he had a major hit. In 2015, he released “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”

On September 5, his significant other discovered him dozing off on the couch, per an Atlanta police incident record. When she went to check on him at around 11 a.m. that day, she saw that “his body was cold,” according to the incident report. The rapper didn’t seem to be breathing, conscious, or awake, according to the police who were on the scene.

According to the incident report, his brother, who had discovered the artist unconscious on the kitchen floor with food in his mouth, had spoken with police. As per the event report, the brother got him up and placed him on the couch.

During the podcast, he discussed his heavy drug use following the release of his 2013 hit song “Type of Way.” He first claimed that his drug use started as a result of how frequently he had to perform and how it required him to stay up late.

He started drinking lean, a concoction of Coke and codeine cough medicine, and abusing the street drug ecstasy known as Molly.

“I spent every day on Molly.” Geek out,” he exclaimed. “It seems impossible for me to perform a song or a show without being on Molly.” In the podcast, he then said, “I was lost in the sauce.”

According to Variety, Rich Homie Quan was selected for the prestigious first Freshman Class of rap magazine XXL in 2014. The publication also named Kevin Gates, Ty Dolla $ign, and Chance the Rapper.

According to Variety, he has received multiple nominations for BET and BET Hip Hop Awards during his career, including best new artist and people’s champ.
