Performers in Nashville, a city known for its love of music, almost always get the opportunity to host a special visitor or two.

As part of Nashville’s Skydeck on Broadway in downtown Music City, Machine Gun Kelly performed an acoustic set on Tuesday, September 24, at 107.5 River on the Rooftop, an event series. Machine Gun Kelly did just that, adding some star power to the genre.

As he invited Wilson, the current CMA and ACM entertainer of the year, on the stage to sing along on “Lonely Road,” MGK questioned the audience. Wilson’s labelmate Jelly Roll, who was in Albany, New York, that evening, headlining a gig on his Beautifully Broken Tour, was with MGK when they earlier recorded the song.

The singer of “Heart Like a Truck” took over the song’s second verse during the MGK/Wilson collaboration, adding her distinctive soulful country drawl and some powerful high notes, especially when the song samples the John Denver hit “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Not all of Wilson’s connections to the country scene this week are limited to the duet at the “Bloody Valentine” singer’s Skydeck on Broadway event. MGK will also take the stage at the People’s Choice Country Awards, which will be broadcast live from the Grand Ole Opry House on Thursday, September 26.
