In an effort to cater to cord-cutters looking for a more personalized watching experience, DIRECTV has introduced a new “User Profiles” feature for its satellite-free streaming users, an option that other services have already implemented.

This feature enables each member of a household to build their own personalized profile within the “Your TV” platform, complete with tailored content recommendations, favorite shows and sports teams, cloud-based DVR recordings, and even individual pause and resume points.

Devin Merrill, DIRECTV’s senior vice president for product marketing, emphasized the importance of this feature in today’s fragmented streaming landscape, stating, “The growing fragmentation of content across multiple apps and video services makes it increasingly difficult for customers, particularly those with multiple at-home users, to find the shows and games they want.” The new User Profiles attempt to simplify the experience by giving each user a tailored view of their preferred material, such as scores and analytics for their favorite sports teams.

Customers can establish up to five different accounts with a single DIRECTV streaming account. With the exception of the primary account holder’s profile, each profile is easily manageable and customizable. This feature is especially appropriate, with football season in full swing and baseball playoffs approaching, as it provides sports fans with a streamlined way to access games and material suited to their personal interests.

The “User Profiles” functionality is presently available on most major streaming devices, including Gemini, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and a variety of mobile and web platforms. It’s worth noting that this functionality is currently limited to DIRECTV’s streaming service and is not yet available to satellite customers.

This change reflects DIRECTV’s continued attempts to improve its streaming capabilities and compete in the rapidly expanding cord-cutting market. By emphasizing personalization and ease of use, DIRECTV positions itself as an appealing alternative for families looking for a personalized and convenient TV viewing experience.
