Ricky Pearsall, a rookie wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, was released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon after being shot during an attempted robbery in San Francisco.
According to a league source, Pearsall did not require surgery and was awake and lucid during his hospital stay. The insider stated that his family was present in the room on Saturday night.
“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” a statement released by the 49ers on Sunday said.
Pearsall, 23, was upgraded to “fair condition” earlier Sunday, the hospital said.

According to authorities, he was shot in the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco after being approached by a suspect, which sparked a physical altercation. Pearsall and the suspect were both shot during the attempted robbery, according to authorities.
On Saturday, police said a 17-year-old suspect from Tracy, Calif., roughly 60 miles east of San Francisco, was in custody. According to SFPD Chief William Scott, the suspect’s gun was recovered at the scene.

Scott said that it does not appear Pearsall was targeted because he is an NFL player. Scott, who spoke with Pearsall about what transpired, stated that investigators believe the perpetrator was operating alone.
Pearsall was selected by the 49ers with the 31st pick in this year’s draft. He played three seasons at Arizona State and two seasons at Florida.
