Cassie has spoken. On Thursday (May 23), the singer released a lengthy statement about the 2016 footage of Diddy beating her.
The post’s text featured a basic prayer hands emoji beside a white heart emoji with a more meaningful message hidden inside the image.
Cassie went on to thank everyone for their continuous support, but she stressed that her lawsuit and fresh footage were only the beginning, and that the true issue was overcoming domestic violence.
“Thank you for all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers, and those I have yet to meet,” she wrote. “The outpouring of love has created a space for my younger self to feel safe, but this is only the beginning…” Domestic violence is THE problem. It broke me down into someone I never imagined I’d be. I’m better today because to a lot of hard work, but I’ll never be free of my past.”

Later in the piece, Cassie urged readers to “open your heart to believing victims the first time.” The model stated that people should not have to go through these difficult moments alone and should have loved ones by their side to assist them get through.

CNN revealed the unsettling 2016 surveillance footage on Friday (May 12). The footage shows Cassandra Fine sprinting for her life as she reaches the elevator. Cassie claimed in her November 2023 lawsuit that she attempted to leave Diddy while he was sleeping.
The tape then shows an apparently irate Sean Combs leaving their hotel room in a towel. He catches up with Cassie and throws her to the ground by her neck. Combs then stomps her on the ground while she lies there, shielding herself from further assault. Sean Combs is then shown on video hurling vases and glasses at someone who looks to be the singer off-screen.

Following the video’s release, Sean Combs apologized. The businessman claimed to be disgusted by his “inexcusable” behavior and that he had sought therapy for it. Some fans saw the apology as hollow, given that Sean Combs and his staff had spent the previous few months claiming innocence in the face of allegations against him.

In fact, he released his first statement a month after Cassie’s November bombshell lawsuit, typing in all caps, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I HAVE SAT SILENTLY AND WATCHED PEOPLE TRY TO ASSASSINATE MY CHARACTER [AND] DESTROY MY REPUTATION AND MY LEGACY. SICKENING ACCUSATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AGAINST ME BY INDIVIDUALS LOOKING FOR A QUICK PAYDAY.
“LET ME BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR,” the adamant statement continued. “I DID NOT DO ANY OF THE AWFUL THINGS BEING ALLEGED. I WILL FIGHT FOR MY NAME, MY FAMILY AND FOR THE TRUTH. SEAN DIDDY COMBS.”
