Subscribers are constantly hopping between platforms since they have more streaming options than ever before.

As people continue to cut the cord and try other platforms, Hulu + Live TV lost 100,000 customers in the first month of 2024, according to Disney’s announced profits.

Hulu’s live TV streaming platform has previously seen a six-figure subscriber reduction. In the first quarter of 2023, Disney claimed that 100,000 members had left the service, a 2% decrease from the end of 2022. However, by the end of 2023, Hulu + Live TV had regained almost 4.6 million members. Including the recent self-reported loss, the live TV streaming company has approximately 4.5 million customers.

As users change and experiment with other services, the report follows the Leichtman Research Group’s most recent study, which found that YouTube TV will have more subscriptions in 2023 than Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV combined.

Despite the loss of Hulu + Live TV subscribers, this was the first time Disney+ and Hulu were profitable. Disney announced that in Q2, the two platforms that made news after merging produced a $47 million profit. However, when combined with ESPN+, the streaming bundle lost $18 million in the quarter. Additionally, Disney and Comcast are working to reach an agreement on a final transaction price for Hulu.

As Disney expands into the streaming realm, the firm will take additional initiatives to generate profit from its platforms. With plans to collaborate with ESPN, FOX, and Warner Bros Discover on a new sports-focused streaming endeavor, Disney hopes to provide new methods to provide live programming outside of Hulu’s service. Other streaming sites, such as Fubo, have sued to keep the mega-sports streaming platform separate from the triumvirate.

Hulu + Live TV is regarded as one of the greatest overall streaming options available, with over 95 live channels, including popular sports, entertainment, news, and lifestyle networks. For $76.99 per month, you receive access to those channels, unlimited DVR storage, thousands of movies and series from the Disney+ and Hulu libraries, and live sports on ESPN+.
