Do you share your Max streaming service password with someone? Warner Bros. Discovery has declared that it would begin cracking down on anyone who discloses their passwords with persons who do not live with them.
According to Bloomberg. This follows in the footsteps of Netflix and Disney, both of which have previously begun or announced measures to restrict password sharing.
According to the report, the crackdown on password sharing will begin later this year and continue until 2025. Warner Bros. Discovery has not confirmed this, and it is unclear whether it would extend to the company’s other streaming services, such as Discovery+.
This follows Max becoming the first streamer to offer live sports in Dolby Vision last month, according to the firm. Dolby Vision improves an image’s color and contrast to provide a richer, more detailed viewing experience.
“We understand how important it is for sports fans to have a high-quality live video player experience so they can fully engage with the action,” Sudheer Sirivara, executive vice president of global technology at Warner Bros. Discovery, said. “We’re excited to launch this industry-first feature and bring fans even closer to the game.”
The change coincides with a surge in demand for live sports content. While Max has improved the viewing experience, Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video (home of Thursday Night Football), has eliminated Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos from its ad-supported service.
Max, formerly HBO Max, debuted its Bleacher Report sports layer in September, offering hundreds of athletic events including the MLB, NHL, NBA, NCAA Men’s March Madness, and U.S. Soccer games year-round. Live video content, replays, and pre- and post-game shows are all available as add-ons for $9.99 per month. A technical problem has kept it free for the next few months.
