There may be criminal charges brought against the driver of the vehicle in the crash that claimed Laura Lynch of Dixie Chicks’ life.

Reports state that the driver of the truck involved in the collision on December 22 may face criminal charges in connection with the death of Dixie Chicks founding member Laura Lynch. The motorist, whose identity has not yet been made public, is the subject of an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, representatives informed TMZ.

The driver was brought to a hospital after the incident with non-life-threatening injuries; blood tests for drug and alcohol testing were performed, though it is unclear if the driver had displayed any signs of intoxication prior to the crash. The outcomes of the blood tests performed at the hospital will have to be subpoenaed by the investigators. The driver can be charged with a crime if the results of the blood tests reveal the presence of drugs or alcohol.

Notwithstanding those outcomes, a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation could result in charges against the motorist for reckless driving. The motorist will either be charged with careless driving or face other penalties based on the scene analysis and eyewitness statements. Thirty days following the crash, the whole investigation will be turned in.

At the scene of the incident, which occurred just outside of El Paso, Texas, Lynch, 65, was declared dead. The Dodge Ram, which was traveling westward, crashed into her car head-on when it attempted to overtake someone on Highway 62, instantly killing her. The musician was traveling by car from El Paso to Dell City, where she was raised, according to Lynch’s cousin.

The Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks, were formed in 1988 by Laura Lynch, Robin Lynn Macy, and the sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire. With the trio, Lynch recorded three albums before leaving in 1993.

Lynch’s memorial services will take place in El Paso on January 6 and in Fort Worth on February 5.
