Wikipedia doesn’t appear to be renaming itself anytime soon.

Multibillionaire Elon Musk promised to donate money to the free online encyclopedia in response to their request for funds to support the website.

There was a catch, though: he insisted that the website be renamed “D*ckipedia.”

Musk posted a screenshot of a statement stating, “Wikipedia is not for sale,” along with an emoji of a yawn.

Then, he retweeted his own tweet, saying, “If they change their name to D*ckipedia, I will give them a billion dollars.”

Musk continued by saying that he wants his Wikipedia page to include an emoji of a cow and manure.

The 52-year-old claimed that changing it to “D*ckipedia” is “in the interests of accuracy.”

It seems that founder Jimmy Wales has answered in light of his offer.

“Wikipedia: not beholden to anyone but you” was the heading of Wales’ statement on the Wikipedia website. She wrote: “We’re sorry to interrupt, but it’s Tuesday, October 24, and time is quickly running out to help us in today’s short fundraiser.”

“I ask you to reflect on the number of times you visited Wikipedia in the past year, the value you got from it, and whether you’re able to give $3 to the Wikimedia Foundation.”

Wales added in other parts of the statement: “These days, it’s difficult to know what to believe online. Scammers and misinformation are prevalent everywhere.

Musk seemed to poke fun at the website after making his offer yesterday, asking why it is constantly seeking for donations.

The tech billionaire questioned, “Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money?”

“It’s definitely not required for Wikipedia to function. A copy of the full text fits exactly on your phone!

What use does the money serve then? Curious brains are eager to find out…”

Even though it frequently requests donations, Wikipedia has consistently denied having a shortage of funds.

“Our reserve amounts to one year of operating budget, based on guidance from the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees,” Samantha Lien, a Wikimedia Foundation spokeswoman, previously told The Washington Post.

“We could find ourselves in a dire situation if there were circumstances that hindered our ability to raise those funds during that period; the reserve is a safety net to protect Wikipedia against such a possibility.”
