Anderson.Paak Has Been Selected To Direct The Live Nation-Funded Film 'K-Pops!'

Anderson.Paak, the R&B musician, will make his directorial debut with the Live Nation-funded film ‘K-Pops!’

Stampede Ventures, a global media business, has announced that principal photography on “K-Pops!,” a Live Nation-funded dramatic comedy, would begin on October 30 in Los Angeles. The film is directed by Anderson.Paak and stars Yvette Nicole Brown (“Community”) and Jonnie “Dumbfounded” Park (“Raya and the Last Dragon.”)

“K-Pops!” is about a washed-up Los Angeles musician who tries to resurrect his career by joining a band for a K-Pop competition event in Seoul, where he discovers that his long-lost son has the opportunity to front one of the country’s hottest new groups. He seizes the opportunity to profit on his son’s celebrity for his own image, but quickly discovers that fatherhood is far more meaningful and gratifying.

Live Nation Productions, along with Stampede Ventures, made an equity investment in the film’s development and will participate as a strategic partner. Michael Tadross, a former Paramount executive, will oversee the film’s physical production.

Including music and cross-promotional opportunities for the brand, by developing, packaging, physically producing, and financing the video. “We are thrilled to have Live Nation Productions as a strategic partner and investor in the project,” adds Stampede Ventures President Chris Bosco.

Anderson.Paak is an 8-time Grammy winner, producer, composer, and singer. Having won Record of the Year and Song of the Year with Bruno Mars as Silk Sonic. His most recent album, “Ventura,” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and won him two Grammy nominations. On June 19th, he released “Lockdown,” his highly appreciated 2020 single. Winning a Grammy for Best Melodic Performance for his politically charged video inspired by his participation in Los Angeles protests against police brutality.

The majority of the film will be shot in Los Angeles, with other locations in South Korea and Al-‘Ula, a historically and culturally significant region in Saudi Arabia selected by Film AlUla. Though Saudi Arabia’s involvement may appear unexpected for a K-Pop-focused film, Paul Pacifico, CEO of the recently founded Saudi Music Commission, stated that the agency is actively working to “unleash the creative and commercial potential” of music in the region.
