Swiftmania continues to intensify as Taylor Swift: The Eras opens as one of the highest-grossing films at the domestic box office in 2023.

AMC Theaters, estimates that the new film chronicling the singer’s world-famous tour has grossed between $95 and $97 million. This surpasses the earnings of Barbenheimer.

Notably, the film achieved a record-breaking status prior to its debut weekend by becoming one of the highest-grossing concert films of all time. It surpassed the $73 million domestic box office revenue of Never Say Never. Which was also directed by Justin Bieber, according to The Numbers.

The film’s opening weekend gross of $95 to $97 million positions it automatically among the top 10 grossing films of the year.

The film, according to Adrian Horton, a writer for The Guardian, depicts “the intoxication” of Swift’s “temple.”

“By observing the singer in the film, one can discern invaluable details such as the scuff marks on her stage and the individual sequins adorning her couture bodysuits,” she further elaborated.

Rolling Stone’s Roy Sheffield remarked that the interactive theatrical experience revitalizes the genre by deftly avoiding all concert film tropes.

He wrote, “…no fan interviews, no backstage melodrama, and no voice-over explanations; just an evening of music in which every performer is a star.”

Sheffield continued, “Just as the tour is more audacious and daring than anything else she has attempted onstage, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is unlike anything else she or anyone else has done onscreen.”

Nell Geraets, a writer for the Sydney Morning Herald, awarded the film four stars and described it as a “extraordinary ode to Swift’s fans.”

“As soon as the camera diverts away from the celebrity, it focuses on audience members—delightful admirers who are overcome with tears in their eyes.” It is the epitome of fandom when a young lady sees her idol for the very first time in person. “By means of these shots, the driving force behind Swift’s meteoric rise to fame is unveiled,” she explained.
