On “Winding Roads,” the album’s latest hit, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead and singer/songwriter Jack Johnson join Marley. The song soulfully finishes up Old Soul with interlacing guitar and vocal trade-offs from Marley, Weir, and Johnson, creating an unforgettable bluesy classic and the only song on the album recorded with a full band. “Winding Roads” was recorded at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios with his Wolf Bros band, which included Don Was and Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane from Dead & Company.

“Winding Roads” was released after two previous singles, “Old Soul” and “Cool As The Breeze.” A music video for the album’s title tune, “Old Soul”. Which was released earlier this summer, showcases previously unreleased family photos and a montage of Jamaican musical legacy. The song is a lovely acoustic story that takes listeners through Stephen’s maturation while intertwining with the Marley legacy.

Lyrics like “April 1972, my mom and poppa brought me through, back then I was the favorite, so they say,” pay homage to his ancestors and formative years. Stephen reworked the song, originally written by Jamaican singer Omi, to mirror his personal path, implying a familiarity with past life situations. Stephen’s fundamental theme supports mental freedom and harmony, echoing his father’s thoughts.
