This hair was directly passed down from generation to son among the descendants of the “merchant prince” Elias Hasket Derby of Salem, Massachusetts. His spouse is closely acquainted with both Martha Washington and the President. Accompanying the property is a correspondence between Dr. George Derby regarding hair.
With a provenance that dates back to the 1780s, it does not get any better than that.
