Sony’s film, “The Equalizer 3,” has successfully ended the six-week dominance of the film “Barbie” at the box office in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

According to data provided by Comscore, the action thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua and featuring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning as the main cast, made its debut with a total of £2.7 million ($3.4 million).

In the seventh weekend of its release, the film “Barbie” produced by Warner Bros. experienced a decline in its ranking, moving to second place with a revenue of £1.6 million. This brings the film’s cumulative earnings to an impressive total of £92.5 million. The picture in question has achieved the most box office revenue in the year 2023 and currently holds the seventh position on the all-time rankings for its respective territory. However, it falls behind “Spectre,” which has amassed a total of £95.2 million.

In its seventh weekend, the film “Oppenheimer” produced by Universal had a decline in ranking, moving down to the third position with a total revenue of £960,504. With a total box office revenue of £55.4 million, this picture stands as the second most grossing film of the year 2023. Furthermore, it shares the same position as “Bohemian Rhapsody” at number 34 on the all-time ranking.

The song “Sound of Freedom” by Angel achieved significant success in the United States, making its debut in the fourth position with a total revenue of £760,060. Paramount’s film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” secured the fifth position, accumulating a revenue of £618,912 over its fifth weekend, resulting in a cumulative total of £9.1 million.

The sole additional entry in the top 10 was “Cobweb,” a Lionsgate production, which made its debut in the 10th spot with a total of £325,904.

Two releases are scheduled for Thursday in the upcoming week. CinemaLive is presenting the opera “Madama Butterfly On The Lake.” Yash Raj Films is set to release the film “Jawan,” featuring renowned Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The film “Pathaan” starring the aforementioned celebrity has emerged as the most commercially successful Indian film of the year 2023.

Both wide releases on Friday are sequels. Warner Bros. is set to release “The Nun II” and Universal will be distributing “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” in over 300 places apiece.

Trinity CineAsia is commencing the screening of the Chinese blockbuster film titled “No More Bets,” whereas Studiocanal is presenting the highly acclaimed film “Past Lives.” Munro is set to release a documentary titled “Man on the Run,” which delves into the 1MDB saga. Meanwhile, Bulldog is premiering another documentary called “A Life on the Farm,” which explores the life of a farmer who also happens to be a filmmaker, and the remarkable legacy left behind by his rediscovered home movies.

In the present scenario, the continued existence of the esteemed Curzon Mayfair cinema in London is facing a precarious situation. The lease agreement for the venue is set to terminate in March 2024, and the landlord has expressed intentions to terminate the venue’s tenancy at the location. In September and October, the cinema will be presenting a curated selection of films that have previously garnered significant acclaim at the venue. This program includes notable works such as Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” and Tarkovsky’s “Solaris.”

Commencing the endeavors to preserve the cinema, a 4K restoration of Max Ophuls’ “La Ronde” is being initiated. This film enjoyed an uninterrupted exhibition at Curzon Mayfair for a duration of 76 weeks, spanning from April 1951 to October 1952.
