The date of YNW Melly’s second trial has been changed from October 2 to October 9. Today, the rapper went in court for a status hearing, where it was revealed that he will be changing one of his former attorneys.

Jamie Benjamin will replace David A. Howard, who represented Melly throughout the first trial, according to journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul.

The 24-year-old is suspected of killing two of his associates, YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser, by shooting them. Melly believes the two men were slain in a drive-by shooting in 2018, but prosecutors have presented evidence that suggests otherwise. His first trial began in June, but Judge John Murphy III declared it a mistrial. According to reports, one “rude” juror refused to convict the rapper, resulting in a 6-6 tie. Prosecutors stated at the end of last month that they will pursue another trial. The stakes are high here, as he faces the death penalty if convicted of the killings.

The second trial of YNW Melly begins on October 9th.

YNW Bortlen was another survivor who was in the van on the night of the murders. Bortlen’s trial is set to begin on October 2. He’s suspected of assisting Melly, but if convicted, he won’t face the death penalty. The prosecution is also pressing for Melly and Bortlen to be tried simultaneously, according to sources. Melly’s defense filed an objection to a combined trial, and a ruling on the petition is expected in September.

Despite the fact that prosecutors may have evidence against him, Melly appears to be certain that he will go free. He appeared to be mouthing a soothing phrase to family members in the room during his court appearance today. “I’m coming home,” he announced. As expected, the statement has sparked a flurry of discussion about what he might have meant. It’s even been suggested that the rapper knows something about the case that the general public doesn’t.
