One of the guys who helped sponsor the anti-child trafficking film Sound of Freedom was arrested and charged with kidnapping.

Fabian Marta was one of thousands of supporters who contributed to the production of Sound of Freedom, which tells the true story of Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel), a former US government agent and creator of the anti-trafficking organization Operation Underground Railroad.

Marta’s name was listed among the ‘investors [who] helped bring Sound of Freedom to theaters’ in the film’s credits when it was released in the United States in July.

Facebook pages, which have since been deleted, appear to show Marta expressing his delight in supporting the film, as well as photographs of the same man who was arrested by St. Louis Metropolitan Police on July 23.

Marta, from Chesterfield, Missouri, was arrested two days after being accused with felony child kidnapping, according to the police department.

The nature of the incident that led to Marta’s arrest is unknown, but child kidnapping is a class A felony in Missouri.

Marta could face 10 years to life in jail if proven guilty.

Marta’s bail was set at $15,000 (£11,700), however he was freed on personal recognizance on July 24 after an initial appearance in court. Marta’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 28.

Prior to his detention, a Facebook user praised the Sound of Freedom for tackling a “tough subject.” That post has since been deleted.

“[It] took an extraordinary amount of effort to bring it to movie theaters,” the post added. “I’m proud to have played a small role in it.” If you see the film, look for ‘Fabian Marta and Family’ at the very end.”

Sound of Freedom’s release was delayed because it was ‘bounced around’ by studios, according to its creators Angel Studios, but it was eventually published after $5 million (£3.9 million) was crowdfunded for its theatrical distribution.

Sound of Freedom is a ‘riveting film that chronicles the narrative of one man’s brave efforts to rescue children from human trafficking,’ according to Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon.

“Through this powerful cinematic experience, we hope to amplify the growing movement to expose this heinous violation of human rights and inspire people to take action, assisting their communities in finally putting an end to this modern-day slavery,” Harmon concluded.

Following its debut in the United States, Sound of Freedom will be released in UK and Irish theatres on September 1st.
