A brand-new PlayStation console set to be introduced ‘later this year’ may be a real treat for all you gamers out there.

According to a court document unsealed as part of the FTC vs. Microsoft litigation, Microsoft believes Sony will release a PlayStation 5 Slim.

And it gets better: a handheld game streaming gadget that wirelessly links to the PS5 is rumored to be joining the new system.

Sony has yet to confirm such allegations. The documents, which have subsequently circulated online, indicate that Microsoft may have gotten there first and announced Sony’s future PlayStation before the brand even had a chance.

The trial will decide the fate of a proposed preliminary injunction against Activision Blizzard’s nearly $70 billion (£55 billion) acquisition of Call of Duty producer, Activision Blizzard.

Not only did Microsoft appear to confirm the long-rumored existence of a PlayStation 5 Slim, but it also alluded to its rumored pricing.

Microsoft alleges in court documents dated June 22 that “PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point.”

Concerning Project Q, Microsoft adds, “Sony is also expected to release a handheld version of PlayStation 5 later this year for less than $300.”

PlayStation disclosed that the new device is aimed for ‘playing games placed on your PS5 and streamed over WiFi’ in the caption of a teaser video released to YouTube.

“Project Q [is] a dedicated device launching later this year that allows you to play any compatible game installed on your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi,” Sony previously revealed.

“With a vibrant 8-inch LCD screen capable of up to 1080p resolution at 60fps, the device delivers crisp visuals and smooth gameplay streamed from your PS5 when you’re away from your TV.”

According to the announcement, “all of the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, are featured on the device.”

While Sony has yet to confirm anything tangible, it’s evident that the news is driving gamers all over the world into a frenzy.

Many others have taken to social media to express their thoughts on the documents, with one Twitter user dubbing the console “the one I’ve been waiting for.”

A second said they’d ‘been waiting’ for the new PS5, while a third stated it was ‘much needed’.

Another player commented, “I’ll cop that ngl.”
