Cillian Murphy has expressed interest in playing Ken in a ‘Barbie’ sequel.

The 47-year-old actor is currently promoting his film ‘Oppenheimer’ at the same time that Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are promoting their film about the beloved Mattel dolls, and the ‘Peaky Blinders’ star admitted he would be happy to “have a conversation” about getting involved with the rival blockbuster.

Cillian told ‘Omelete’, “Would I play Ken in ‘Barbie 2’?” Sure, sure. Let’s read the script and talk about it.”

Despite the fact that both ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ are being released at the same time, Cillian believes it is “great for cinema” to have such significant box office draws competing.

“I can’t wait to see [Barbie],” he said. I’m excited to see the film. “I think it’s fantastic for cinema that there are so many great films coming out this summer.”

Lucy Bevan and Allison Jones, the casting directors for ‘Barbie,’ recently described how they had assembled the appropriate ensemble to represent the various Kens in the film, with roles going to Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena.

According to Allison, “we needed actors who could get the fact that our Barbies only knew pleasant things.”

“They were definitely very different,” Lucy noted, “but they had to feel like a cohesive group.” You wanted to cast people that were going to get along, be wonderful, and have fun.”

Some possible Kens were ruled out owing to COVID-19 constraints because they couldn’t spend three months in London for the shoot, with the pair admitting Bowen Yang, Ben Platt, and Dan Levy all missed out due to scheduling difficulties.

Allison stated, “They were, I’m not kidding, really bummed they couldn’t do it.”
