Josephine Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin's Daughter, Died At The Age Of 74

Josephine Chaplin, the daughter of Charlie Chaplin and Oona O’Neill and a successful actress in her own right, died at the age of 74, according to a report in Le Figaro, citing her children Charly, Julien, and Arthur. She passed away on July 13 in Paris.

Chaplin made her acting debut in one of her father’s final films, Limelight (1952), as a toddler in the opening sequence. She was one of five of the director’s children that appeared in the semi-autobiographical film. She also appeared briefly with sisters Geraldine and Victoria in her father’s final film, A Countess from Hong Kong (1967).

Her first significant part was for another legendary filmmaker, Pier Paolo Pasolini, in his 1972 adaptation of The Canterbury Tales. Chaplin portrays May, the adulterous wife of the old Sir January in “The Merchant’s Tale.”

That same year, Chaplin co-starred in Menahem Golan’s Escape to the Sun with Laurence Harvey. She then starred in Georges Franju’s Nuits Rouges in 1974, Jack the Ripper with Klaus Kinski in 1976, The Bay Boy with Liv Ullmann and – in his film debut – Kiefer Sutherland in 1984, and Cop au Vin with Claude Chabrol in 1985.
