Slipknot fans were taken aback when the legendary American band took to social media on June 7 to announce their shocking breakup from keyboardist Craig Jones.

“To our fans, Slipknot is announcing that we have parted ways with Craig Jones,” the band wrote on Facebook.

“We wish Jones the best of luck in the future,” the statement said.

Slipknot are scheduled to perform on stage in Austria in a couple of hours, so this is a significant update.

Oh, and the band is headlining the Download Festival in the United Kingdom this weekend, among Metallica and a bunch of other rock greats.

Let’s just say metalheads on social media were not impressed by the news.

One user stated, “HE CANNOT LEAVE.”

“Damn, this made me push my fingers into my eyes,” a second said emphatically.

“THIS WAS SO UNEXPECTED,” a third person said.

Another fan regretted the band’s loss of another longtime member.

“So now the band is down to four of the original numbers lineup,” they stated. If you go below 50%, I believe you should disband the band. Then there’s room for fresh ventures all around.”

In 1995, the famous metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jones, popularly known as 133 by fans, has been a member of the band for a remarkable 27 years.

He was classified as ‘number five’ in the nine-member metal band, and he joined shortly after the group finished recording their demo album Mate. In 1996, feed. Kill. Repeat.

But that was several years ago. Now, the band is shocking fans with shocking divorce announcements on social media.

Jones was initially brought on to replace guitarist Donnie Steele.

Jones ended up making samples and playing the keys instead.

This year, the band has a packed festival calendar, including headlining spots at Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting, Rock Fest, Inkcarceration, Blue Ridge Rock Festival, and others.

Slipknot will be missing another famous face in addition to the spiky, gimp-mask wearing hole that will be left in the roster.

Percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan will be absent from the band for an indeterminate number of gigs to care for his wife due to “some health issues.”

Clown had only confirmed his absence from the tour a few hours before Jones’ departure.

“Hello to all of our fans, it’s the Clown,” Clown said in a social media announcement. I’d like to take this opportunity to inform everyone that I’m back home supporting my wife through some medical challenges, and I’ll be back on the road as soon as possible.”

“We’ve been through this before, and as always, we appreciate the love and support,” he continued. “I’ll see you all soon.”

Everyone except Craig Jones, we suppose.
