The Weeknd sought out Atlanta’s best musicians for The Idol Vol. 1, the soundtrack to his upcoming HBO series.
The Toronto singer walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, where the pilot episode of the controversial television show premiered. While The Weeknd, Lily Depp-Rose, and Sam Levinson were on stage with the press and audience, the artist debuted a new song with Playboi Carti. Despite being an odd coupling, the early 2000s-inspired production serves as an ideal backdrop for their collaborative efforts.
There is currently no additional information regarding their collaboration. However, HBO has announced that The Idol will premiere on June 4th, implying that the music will be released around the same time. Prior to the release of his duet with Playboi Carti, The Weeknd released “Double Fantasy” featuring Future and teased a cover of John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy.” Between Future and Playboi Carti, The Weeknd’s additional collaborators for the music of his next series will be interesting to witness.
The Weeknd Unveils Playboi Carti Collaboration
As fans wait for new music from Playboi Carti, his upcoming duet with The Weeknd appears to be the first taste of his impending project. There have been a number of updates from his close circle over the last few months, including DJ Swamp Izzo, who indicated that the project was finished. Carti has not confirmed a release date, although Izzo has claimed that it would be released in the summer. Meanwhile, he launched a tune dubbed “Rockstar” earlier this year at Rolling Loud.
