The Los Angeles Lakers faced the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday night, and even Jack Nicholson’s cheers weren’t enough to carry L.A. to victory.

As of today, Denver leads Los Angeles 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. With one more win, the Nuggets will make franchise history by reaching the NBA Finals for the first time.

On Saturday, the 86-year-old Oscar winner was back at his courtside position, cheering on the team in his nearly all-black attire, navy blue polo, and distinctive sunglasses. Dave Chappelle was seated next to Nicholson.

Back in the day, Nicholson attending a Lakers game would not have made much of an impression, since the now-retired iconic actor has been a courtside superfan for decades. However, he has remained mainly out of the public spotlight for some time since leaving his Hollywood career, which has led to worry about his health.

Perhaps that is why he has returned to the Crypto.com Arena as the Lakers have made an impressive post-season run after a disappointing regular season.

According to ESPN, the four games Nicholson has seen in recently are the first he has been seen at since the Lakers’ season opener in October 2021.

At the April 28 game, Nicholson was seen meeting up with Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm actor Larry David and LeBron James. During the same game, Nicholson was also honored on the jumbotron with a video montage of his memorable appearances in The Shining (1980) and as the Joker in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989).

Nicholson’s most recent film appearance was in the 2010 rom-com How Do You Know? Nicholson revealed why he wasn’t taking on more jobs three years later, telling The Sydney Morning Herald in 2013, “I’m not going to work until the day I die, that’s not why I started this.” I mean, I’m not motivated. I was driven — but I’m not anymore; I don’t have to be out there.”
