Dolph Lundgren was spotted out for lunch in Los Angeles on Wednesday for the first time since declaring his secret eight-year fight with lung cancer.

The 65-year-old Swedish actor, best known for his portrayal as cruel Soviet fighter Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, revealed on Wednesday’s episode of In Depth with Graham Besinger that he has been battling cancer for the previous eight years.

Lundgren appeared to be in good spirits as he dined with his fiancee Emma Krokdal, 25, in Beverly Hills.

The actress donned a blue top, a fitted white blazer, black pants, and monochromatic sneakers.

Emma dressed similarly to her companion, wearing a blazer, tee, and trousers as she chatted with him outside the restaurant.

Lundgren stated in 2015 that he was diagnosed with lung cancer for the first time, and he thought that his previous usage of steroids for bodybuilding was to blame.

When discussing his condition with Besinger, the actor claims to have gone into remission, but the cancer reappeared in 2020, giving him a bleak 2-3 year life prognosis.

The actor sought a second opinion, and the medication he is now receiving has resulted in the tumors decreasing.

‘It’s the day after my operation, they took out one tumor, then another two they found, then another three minor ones,’ he adds in an interview tape while still wearing a hospital robe.

‘Hopefully it’s cleaned out, but if it dies, it dies,’ he said, referring to his memorable line from the 1985 film Rocky IV, in which his character Drago murders Apollo Creed during an exhibition battle.

In an interview, Bensinger described how he found he had cancer again in 2020.

‘In 2020, I was back in Sweden and I had some kind of acid reflux, which I didn’t know what it was, so I had an MRI,’ Lundgren adds.

‘They discovered a couple additional tumors surrounding that location.’

‘They detected one more tumor in the liver, so I was like aw s**** okay,’ he continues.

‘At that time, it became clear to me that this was a severe situation. The surgeon called to tell me that it had grown too large, to the size of a tiny lemon.

‘I asked them how much time I had left, and I believe he answered 2-3 years, but I could tell by the tone of his voice that he thought it was less. ‘I assumed that was the end of it.’

Lundgren said that using steroids had an effect on his body.

‘I tried steroids in the 1980s and 1990s,’ he stated. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the cancer, but it struck me as something that could.

‘I considered it; you always believe you’ve made a mistake. I believe there is a link between testosterone therapy and cancer.

‘When I was younger, I was taking steroids on and off for around ten years. Depending on the type of film I made.’

‘His mouth was incredibly sore, his hands were sore, and he couldn’t eat anything,’ fiancée Emma Krokdal told Bensinger.

‘It was a challenge since he was losing weight. We understood it was far worse than we anticipated when they mentioned tumors in the lung, stomach, spine, and outside the kidneys.’

‘It hit me when I had a lengthy chat with my Dad about what would happen if he died,’ his daughter Ida told Bensinger.

‘That was a terrible conversation at a difficult moment. I need to be tough for my sister.’

Lundgren stated that he sought a second opinion on his diagnosis and met with Dr. Alexandra Drakaki.

Lundgren claims that after switching treatments, his tumors shrank by 20% to 30% in three months.

Lundgren goes on to say, ‘You just enjoy being lucky enough to be alive, and you value every moment there is.’

Lundgren is well recognized for his work in action flicks, but his breakthrough role was as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.

In 2018, he would resume his role as Drago in Creed II.

He returned to Hollywood in 2010 in The Expendables, alongside Rocky co-star Sylvester Stallone, after a long stint working on direct-to-video films in the 1990s.

He has since repeated his role as Gunnar Jensen in the second and third films in the series, with a fourth due out later this year.

The whole episode will air later this month.
