On Monday (April 24), Don Lemon claimed in a statement that CNN had fired him. The broadcaster tweeted a screenshot of a document on social media, claiming that the network failed to properly inform him of the choice.

The 57-year-old said, “I was informed this morning by my agency that I have been sacked by CNN. “I’m in awe. I would have expected someone in management to have the decency to tell me straight up after 17 years at CNN. I never had any warning that I wouldn’t be able to carry on with the work I’ve always liked at the network.

It is evident that there are some bigger concerns at play, he said as he hinted at potential causes for his dismissal and expressed gratitude. After that, I’d like to thank my coworkers and the various teams I’ve collaborated with for a fantastic run. I wish them the best because they are the most brilliant journalists in the industry.

Lemon’s social media comment was addressed by the CNN Communications team in a tweet that provided a different perspective.

“Don Lemon’s assertion regarding what happened this morning is false. He was given the chance to speak with management, but chose to make a statement on Twitter instead,” the account stated.

In relation to the situation, CNN also released a statement. The network’s CEO, Chris Licht, said in a statement that “Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years,” and that “We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”

When criticizing South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley on CNN This Morning in February, the television anchor was criticized for her sexist remarks about women “being in their prime” in their 20s and 30s. After the controversy, Lemon consented to take part in official training, according to Licht.

But earlier this month, the host was accused of acting like a “diva” and sending threatening text messages to his coworkers, with incidences going back to 2008.
