The reason behind Aaron Carter’s demise has been identified.

The pop artist drowned at his home due to gas and drug effects, according to an autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office that was received on Tuesday.

According to the study, Carter’s system contained alprazolam, a medication used to treat anxiety symptoms, and difluoroethane, a gas often used as a propellant in air spray cleaners for electronic gadgets.

Carter, 34, was discovered in a bathtub at his home submerged in water and unconscious. On November 5, medical personnel pronounced Carter deceased at the spot.

The report notes that alprazolam has “depressant effects on the central nervous system which can cause drowsiness and sedation” while difluoroethane can “induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled” and is known for its “cardiotoxic effects which can lead to cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac arrest.”

Carter’s autopsy was conducted the day after she passed away, but the results were held back pending the outcome of toxicology tests, which can take months.
