Clint Eastwood, the renowned actor-director of Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, and Bridges of Madison County, is preparing to start production on yet another movie for Warner Bros., his longstanding studio.
Toni Collette and Nicholas Hoult are currently being cast in the legal drama Juror No. 2, which the 92-year-old is setting up at Warners. Following weeks of discussions with Hoult and Collette and months of searching for the ideal cast, official offers to the actors were made on Thursday.
The murder trial in the upcoming movie Juror No. 2 follows a jury member (Hoult), who suspects he might have contributed to the victim’s demise. He must choose between telling the truth and turning himself in or trying to influence the jury to save himself. The prosecutor would be played by Collette.
A mid-June production start would make Eastwood one of the oldest living filmmakers and make him 93 years old when the filming starts.
In 2021, the contemporary Western Cry Macho was released; it was Eastwood’s final film. Eastwood also had a prominent role in the poorly regarded film. According to sources, the actor-director wanted to find one final job so he could ride off into the distance with pride. He discovered the Jonathan Abrams script and felt it was the one. Changes were made to several of the characters’ ages and to include a supporting character. Since late last year, Eastwood has been trying to cast the movie, using names like Charlize Theron in various permutations.
Together with Adam Goodman, who currently heads his production company, Dichotomy, and was previously the production president of Paramount, Eastwood is directing the film. Additionally producing are Tim Moore, Matt Skiena, and Jessica Meier. Executive producing are Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell of The Gotham Group, who have been guiding the script through Hollywood for the past 15 years.
After becoming well-known in front of the camera in movies like Dirty Harry and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Eastwood started taking over the directing duties on his films, frequently doing double duty by appearing in either a lead or supporting role. He has had numerous nominations for the Oscar for best director for movies including Letters from Iwo Jima and Mystic River, and he has won two Oscars for his directing work on the films Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, which also won the Academy Award for best picture. His best picture nominees are Mystic River, Letters from Iwo Jima, and American Sniper.
The next movie starring Hoult will be Universal’s horror comedy Renfield. He will star in Nosferatu, a film by Robert Eggers, alongside Willem Dafoe, Emma Corin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. UTA represents him.
Collette’s upcoming projects include Mickey 17, the new film from director Bong Joon Ho that also stars Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, and Steven Yeun, as well as the fantasy drama series The Power on Amazon. Warners will release the latter. CAA represents her.
