Tuesday marked Jeremy Renner’s first red carpet appearance following the snowplow incident.

At the Los Angeles premiere of his Disney+ reality series Rennervations at the Regency Village Theatre, the Avengers star walked the red carpet with the aid of a cane and posed for pictures. He eventually moved to a motorized scooter to aid him in press appearances.

The 52-year-old was walking on a red carpet for the first time since his snowplow ran over him on January 1 on his Nevada ranch. He shattered more than 30 bones, sustained traumatic chest injuries, and required numerous procedures.

The Hawkeye actor told Variety on the red carpet that he pleaded with Disney executives not to postpone the episode because the airing schedule accelerated his recuperation.

“I was particularly insistent that they hold off on promoting this idea while there was momentum among the Disney brass, among us, and among the timing of it in all of our lives. It simply seemed right,” said Renner. “I may appear to be in rough shape right now, but I can assure you that this show is what motivates and inspires me to improve daily.

“I established a goal for myself to be on this carpet. And I’m enjoying it right now. Otherwise, it would have lost momentum and excitement, gone off the rails, and I would have been extremely, extremely, extremely frustrated. We’re here now, which makes me quite happy.

At the premiere, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Renner’s family, including his 10-year-old daughter Ava, stood by him.

He rode his scooter up to his chair for a Q&A with talk show host Jimmy Kimmel following the movie. He once more discussed how the show was “a big part” of his recuperation during the conversation.

“It set a big milestone for me to get better, to make sure all of this hard work was not for nothing,” he said.

On Wednesday, Rennervations made its Disney+ debut.
