The latest ordering innovation from Domino’s, which has long positioned itself as a “e-commerce company that sells pizza,” reflects this attitude.

As more people buy connected vehicles and use their features during their commutes, the pizza company can gain market share in the quickly expanding in-car commerce sector by integrating with Apple CarPlay.

The pizza restaurant is promoting the CarPlay integration as a distinction from its rivals that rely on drive-thru ordering. It is one of the first QSR companies in the U.S. to do so, according to the press release.

“We are aware of the aggravation that comes with having to wait in a drive-thru line only to place an order. Customers still have the convenience of staying in their cars and can order from wherever they are without waiting in a long drive-through with Domino’s app on CarPlay, according to Christopher Thomas-Moore, senior vice president and chief digital officer of Domino, in a press release.

The Domino’s-CarPlay integration is the most recent in a string of advancements the company has made in the area of ordering and delivery, including its frequently imitated Pizza Tracker, mobile-focused Hotspots, and a “mind ordering” app that was developed in conjunction with Netflix smash “Stranger Things.”

The rollout also occurs after Domino’s most recent earnings report left investors unimpressed, showing a 0.9% increase in same-store sales in the United States for the fourth quarter and a 0.8% loss for the entire fiscal year 2022. Domino’s is a “work-in-progress brand,” according to CEO Russell Weiner, who also stated this in a press statement announcing the results report.

In 2022, Weiner stated, “We faced significant pressure on our U.S. delivery business and focused our efforts on developing solutions.” “In the United States, carryout currently accounts for more than half of all orders, and we dominate both the delivery and carryout of QSR pizza. More than ever, our company and brand are well-positioned to succeed in the market and deliver real value to our shareholders.
