The Greatest Guitar Anthem is “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses.

In a survey of Absolute Radio listeners, Axl Rose and the band’s 1988 single from the landmark album “Appetite for Destruction” came out on top, dethroning songs from Pink Floyd, AC/DC, and The Eagles including “Hotel California” and “Comfortably Numb.”

Both “Back in Black” by AC/DC and “Paradise City” from the same album were among the top 25 songs.

“From the iconic opening bars, you know this is a song that is going to take you on a journey,” said presenter Sarah Champion. Sweet Child O’Mine is an anthem that is a timeless rock classic and a deserving winner of the Greatest Guitar Anthem poll, especially with the addition of Axl Rose’s recognizable vocals.

You can listen to the complete countdown starting at 10 a.m. today (April 7) on Absolute Radio or on the free Absolute Radio app. For more information, visit www.absoluteradio.co.uk.

This summer, Guns N’ Roses will perform at both American Express presents BST Hyde Park and Glastonbury.

The Pretenders, The Darkness, and Larkin Poe will all be present at the latter.
