I Go To The Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston, by Whitney Houston, has risen to No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart.

The collection, according to Billboard, sold 4,000 equivalent album units during the tracking week ending March 30, 2023, catapulting it to No. 2. On March 24, 2023, Houston’s final work was made public.

The late singer’s album also represents Houston’s second appearance on the gospel-focused chart. The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack, her debut gospel record, debuted at No. 1 and remained on the charts for 158 straight weeks in 1996.

Six unreleased tracks, including “I Found a Wonderful Way,” “He Can Use Me,” “Testimony,” “This Day,” “He/Believe,” and a live performance of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” are included on the fourteen-track album I Go To The Rock.

11 No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 list and four No. 1s on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart were achieved by “The Voice” during her time on earth.

SZA’s SOS became the first R&B record to spend seven straight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since the former’s sophomore album, according to other Houston chart-related news. Whitney, a 1987 R&B record, is thought to have been the first album by a woman to debut at No. 1 when it was first released.
On February 11, 2012, Whitney Houston’s life and career abruptly came to an end when she was discovered comatose in a hotel bathtub. In December 2022, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, the authorized biopic, was published by Sony Pictures and Houston’s estate in remembrance of the anniversary of her passing.

Naomi Acke plays the famous pop star who gave a “no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman behind The Voice” and set out to show “the Whitney you never knew” in the Kasi Lemmons-helmed movie. The movie’s executive director, Clive Davis, said in a Billboard interview that he had an emotional response to it.

The 90-year-old said, “It hit home.” “It’s practical. Obviously, scenes between Whitney and I had a strong emotional impact, from our first encounter to our musical, personal relationship and the more challenging moments dealing with her issues. I believe the movie portrays our conversations very accurately.

“I think it demonstrates a real depth and comprehension of who she was, as well as the significance of what her musical life represented,” the author said.
