Teyana Taylor is already hard at work on her upcoming project! The actress from A Thousand and One confirmed this week that she has formally signed on to play Dionne Warwick in a forthcoming movie while appearing as a guest on Tamron Hall.

When Hall inquired about Taylor potentially portraying the legendary singer-songwriter, Taylor replied, “We’re already working on it.”

The triple threat talent, 31, said, “Right now, we’re in the building process. I always wanted to be certain that I could connect with whoever I was performing.

Taylor continued by making mention of Jamie Foxx’s Oscar-winning portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray and Angela Bassett’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It.

I mourn watching movies the way they used to,” she said. “When you really connect with them and get to know them,”

Taylor mentioned that she has been doing her research and talking to Warwick, who is 81 years old.

We speak frequently, she said. “My daughter is that. Yes, I’m with her and her kid.

Taylor said she is focused on getting it right and making the musician feel safe when she shares Warwick’s tale.

“You know what I’m saying? I’ve always been a strong believer and always just stood on safety. She’s had a great career, you know, and I believe that right now, what’s important is to give her the best sense of security so that she can tell her story,” she told Hudson, who most recently played Aretha Franklin in the film Respect. “Because a lot of these stories are misinterpreted or overly dramatized to a point, and that’s not what we really want to do,” the author explains.

Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over, an HBO Max documentary, recently featured Warwick telling her own tale.

Taylor was in discussions to portray her, the “That’s What Friends Are For” singer informed Sherri Shepard in October.

“We’ve spoken on the phone a lot. Warwick remarked that Taylor had done her research and knew more about him than he did about him, calling Taylor a “hoot.”

“I adore her a great deal. She is on it,” she continued.

And as early as February 2021, Warwick disclosed she was working on a project about her life, describing Taylor as “certainly a talented young lady with whom I’ve had the pleasure of interfacing” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In actuality, we spoke on the phone late last night. She is very excited to be engaged and will play a huge role in both directing it and putting together key elements of how we envision this proceeding.
