One of the biggest independent ad exchanges in the world, Index Exchange Inc. (Index), has joined forces with Ad Net Zero to drive industry-wide action to achieve true net zero carbon emissions from developing, producing, and running advertising.

With a primary emphasis on industry cooperation, Index accelerates its commitment to ongoing research and investment in greener forms of infrastructure and operations by supporting Ad Net Zero.

John Osborn, USA Director at Ad Net Zero, said: “I am delighted to welcome Index as a sponsor. With their dedication to sustainability, they can have a significant effect on the digital advertising ecosystem.

The company’s 2021 rebuild of its exchange technology from the ground up was focused on making the exchange more efficient, not just in terms of quickly building and deploying more features, but also in terms of compute and processing power. Index continues to innovate and build with sustainability in mind. The worldwide refresh decreased power per auction by 40% in total. By reducing the number of intermediaries in a transaction and giving direct supply priority, the business is also making investments to increase the effectiveness of the advertising supply chain.

To create uniform standards and measurement that will serve as the basis for a greener ecosystem, Index actively participates in top industry sustainability groups, such as the Sustainability Working Group within the IAB Tech Lab, IAB UK, IAB Europe, and IAB Australia. The business also provides carbon-sustainable media packages for customers to completely offset the effect of their digital advertising campaigns through its partnership with Scope3.

“We’re eager to progress our carbon reduction initiatives and work with Ad Net Zero to bring about lasting change in the digital media industry. Every company decision must put sustainability first, according to Lori Goode, chief marketing officer at Index Exchange. “As we move closer to our shared goal of net zero, we will continue to make climate-conscious decisions in our business operations, collaborate with others in the sector to drive consistent standards, and support employees and customers in their efforts.”

Index is committed to fostering ethical workplaces by locating in high-performance ecological structures. Toronto and New York City, Index’s two biggest locations, have earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications.
