Mike Myers has refuted Jay Brody’s claim that the actor had the radio DJ fired from The Love Guru stage sixteen years ago for simply looking at him.

Brody praised Keanu Reeves for his generosity in a comment on a video showing Reeves assisting the John Wick: Chapter 4 production crew move equipment, and on Sunday he said what he had to say about Myers.

Jay Brody’s side of the story

People who argue that “he [Reeves] shouldn’t be praised for helping” are ignorant of what it’s like to work in the film industry. I made eye contact with Mike Myers on the set of The Love Guru while I was serving as his bodyguard, and he had me dismissed, Brody tweeted. Give Keanu his flowers, please.

Brody subsequently clarified in a different video that he wasn’t Myers’ personal bodyguard and that instead, during the 2007 filming of the movie, he was hired to work on the security team to watch over the actor’s trailer.

“Years ago, I was working in film security,” Brody said in the video from his Sonic Radio show Carly and Jay. “I got a call from a company that hired out guards and they said, ‘Do you want a job on the film The Love Guru? ‘ and I’m like, ‘Sure, what will I be doing?’” he recalled, adding that he was told, “‘You’ll be basically guarding Mike Myers’ trailer on the film set, wherever they go.’ Sounds easy enough, I’ve done this before. They’re like, ‘Here’s the catch, can’t look at him.’ I’m like, ‘I need to look at him to see him to be his bodyguard.’ They’re like, ‘If you look at him, you’re going to get fired.’”

And that is what occurred, according to Brody, despite Myers’ camp’s denial.

Brody continued, “I didn’t immediately recognize Myers in his Love Guru costume, which included long hair and a beard, so I accidently made eye contact with him.”

“I’m sitting on the set; it’s the first day, the first hour, and we have no idea yet what he appears like. And then I see a guy coming toward me wearing a long wig and a fake beard, and I think it’s Mike Myers. I try not to look at him because I don’t want to lose my job, but I realize I can’t just let anyone into the trailer, so I glance up, catch his eye for a second, give him a nod to let him know I’m okay, and then look away,” he says. And within an hour I receive a phone call informing me that I have been fired and must leave the set because I violated this strange regulation.

Mike Myers’ side of the story

A representative for Myers said, “Mike knows nothing about this,” in a comment to a different source. I’m not aware of any hiring or firings.

A request for comment from MovieMaker was not quickly answered by Myers’ representatives.

The Love Guru, a 2008 comedy directed by Marco Schnabel, starred Myers as Guru Pitka, an American who was reared in an ashram in India. Pitka’s ability to use his faith to save a hockey player’s marriage is put to the test when he takes a $2 million offer. Ben Kingsley, Jessica Alba, and Justin Timberlake also appeared in the infamous box office flop movie.
