Just weeks after the company announced its debut, Apple’s standalone “Apple Music Classical” program is now accessible on the program Store.
Subscribers to Apple Music can obtain and use the new program as part of their current subscription at no extra expense.
According to the Apple Music Classical page on the App Store, the app is now accessible anywhere that Apple Music is provided, with the exception of China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, and Turkey. Features and content may also differ by nation or area.
It is necessary to have an Apple Music membership, but the Apple Music Voice Plan—an Apple Music subscription option created to operate with Siri—does not offer it.
According to Apple, the program is “designed to provide the listening experience that fans of classical music deserve.”
The release of Apple Music Classical comes after Apple purchased the Dutch-based streaming service Primephonic in August 2021 with the intention of releasing its own specialized classical music app the following year.
The new app will give “the best features of Primephonic, including better browsing and search capabilities by composer and by repertoire, detailed displays of classical music metadata, as well as new features and benefits,” according to a previous statement from Apple.
Apple claims that the new software “helps beginners get acquainted with the genre by providing hundreds of Essentials playlists, insightful composer biographies, in-depth guides for many key works, and intuitive browsing features.”
Access to a library of more than 5 million songs, including recent albums and renowned works, is available through Apple Music Classical.
Specific recordings can be found by the user searching by artist, composition, performer, or even catalog number.
Oliver Schusser, Apple’s Vice President of Apple Music and Beats, stated that “we love music” and that “classical music is foundational to music of all genres.”
The largest collection of classical music in the world, the best search and browsing features, the highest-quality audio experience with Spatial Audio, and thousands of exclusive recordings make Apple Music Classical a great app for both classical music experts and beginners. For us, this is just the start of what we think is the world’s finest classical music streaming service, Schusser continued.
The software provides Dolby Atmos realistic spatial audio at up to 192 kHz/24 bit Hi-Res Lossless resolution. In June 2021, Apple began providing Lossless Audio and Spatial Audio on its platform with support for Dolby Atmos at no extra expense.
Every week, according to Apple Music Classical, new songs are added to the catalog’s Spatial Audio section.

Classical music, as well as all other forms of culture, is fundamentally about connection and creating bonds of comprehension across time and space. MA, YO-YO, CELLIST
In January, Apple disclosed that in 2022, more than 80% of Apple Music users would use the spatial audio function. Listeners get a surround-sound experience thanks to the function.
The ability to listen using AirPlay on compatible wireless devices is one of the additional features of Apple’s standalone classical music streaming service. It also includes full and accurate metadata, information on thousands of artist bios, summaries of important works, and more.
Apple provides the following justification for why it created a distinct app for classical music: “Classical music frequently entails multiple musicians recording works that have been recorded numerous times and are known by various titles… Fans of classical music have not been well-served by streaming services as a result of these complications. Before now. The editorial and catalog material that these classical music fans have been missing is now available to them thanks to a special program that comes with an Apple Music membership.
The intricacy needed to make classical music searchable, browsable, and approachable for both novices and specialists could only be removed by a brand-new app with specialized features and a gorgeous UI intended for the genre.
The brand-new app also includes distinctive, high-resolution digital images that were specially commissioned from what Apple describes as a varied collection of artists, as well as hundreds of playlist covers. Some of the greatest classical composers, including Bach, Beethoven, Hildegard von Bingen, Chopin, John Dowland, Fanny Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, and others, are featured in the artworks.
The Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the Opéra National de Paris, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Vienna Philharmonic are just a few of the world’s greatest classical institutions with which Apple Music has partnered.
Apple’s entry into classical music comes at a time when the appeal of listening to classical music is on the rise.
Cellist Yo-Yo Ma once said, “Classical music—and all of culture—is essentially about connection, about forging ties of comprehension across time and place.

According to a study by Sweden-based royalty-free soundtrack supplier Epidemic Sound, who also found that classical music was the fastest-growing category used by content creators last year, the use of classical music by YouTube content creators increased by 90% year over year in 2022.
The STAGE+ high-resolution classical music streaming service, which was introduced in November 2022 by Universal Music Group-owned Deutsche Grammophon, may compete with the Apple Music Classical app.
Frank Briegmann, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Central Europe & Deutsche Grammophon, stated at the time that there was “an enormous appetite for great classical music content online.”
In contrast to Apple Music Classical, STAGE+ is also accessible through the App Store and provides both music and video viewing.
