Michael Jordan had a number of requirements for the upcoming film Air, according to Ben Affleck.

The movie, which Affleck both produced and starred in, is based on the true account of how a sportswear company courted a former NBA superstar to design the now-iconic Air Jordan trainer. The movie Air, starring Matt Damon as shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro, who led Nike’s pursuit of Jordan, is scheduled to be published next month.

Affleck has disclosed that he spoke with the former basketball great to ensure his satisfaction with the movie’s plot before the movie’s cameras began rolling. It comes out that Jordan had a long list of requirements for Affleck in exchange for his approval, including a veto over the casting of his cherished mother, Deloris.

Affleck said [as quoted by Variety]: “I had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Jordan, because I just wasn’t going to make this movie without asking him, ‘What matters to you?'” This was at the movie’s premiere at the 2023 SXSW Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas. His possession of a few important items was both interesting and telling.

Howard White, vice president of the Jordan brand and a Nike executive, who was absent from the initial script, was one of Jordan’s demands that the movie include. White “needed to be in the movie,” Jordan informed Affleck after learning White was left out of the original script. Chris Tucker was thus chosen to play White in the film.

The release of “Air” is scheduled for April 5 in the US and April 7 in the UK.
