The Chemical Brothers have returned two years after the publication of their last new music.

The U.K. duo has today (March 17) released “No Reason,” their most recent song. The Chemical Brothers’ new single, “Whoo!” is their first since 2021’s “The Darkness That You Fear,” and it is classic Chemical Brothers: a textured and inventive (but never fussy) jam constructed around funk, bass, waves of percussion, and a skillfully used voice. The tune is jubilant and danceable while still maintaining the pair’s signature hard edges. Watch the song’s music video, which was made by Smith & Lyall, below.

The Chemical Brothers will perform at Coachella the following month, in addition to shows in Santa Barbara, California, and Seattle, Washington, as well as festival appearances across Europe the rest of the summer. The song is released in advance of those appearances.

In addition, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have been working on a new record that will be No Geography’s follow-up. Awarded the 2020 Grammy for best dance/electronic album, the record peaked at No. 3 on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Over the course of their nearly 30-year career, which began with the 1995 publication of their now-classic Exit Planet Dust, the guys have collected seven Grammy awards in total.

Giles Martin, who earlier oversaw the remastering of The Beatles back catalog, also oversaw the Dolby ATMOS mastering of No Reason at Abbey Road Studios. On April 28, “No Reason” will also be offered as a limited edition red vinyl 12 inch with the previously unheard “All Of A Sudden” b-side cut.
