As the Oscars 2023 approach this Sunday, all eyes will be on the “slap heard ’round the world” — once more.
Chris Rock’s remarks in his most recent Netflix special, which rekindled the controversy, left Will Smith “embarrassed and hurt,” a new story claims.
The renowned comedian verbally attacked Smith in his most recent stand-up performance for slapping him during the Oscars event last year.
Chris Rock’s comedy special, “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage,” included numerous jabs at the Best Actor nominee for 2022. Rock spared no punches as he remembered the incident in which the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor struck him in the face.
Will is wounded and embarrassed by what Chris said in his Netflix special about him and his family, a source told Entertainment Tonight. The insider continued, “He didn’t watch it, but he had people tell him what Chris said, and Will and Jada (Pinkett Smith) have seen remarks about it.
Will apologized to Chris and asked him to forget about it, the person continued.
Smith allegedly thinks that airing Rock’s special on Netflix was a “distasteful” decision.
The Post has contacted Smith’s representatives for feedback.
A special “crisis team” has been formed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to help prevent any more humiliations at the ceremony on Sunday.
When Bill Kramer was named CEO of the Academy in July 2022, he disclosed that the chosen team would be prepared to step in at the ceremony on March 12 if something went wrong.
We have many plans in place and a full crisis squad, which is something we’ve never had before, according to Kramer. We’ve tested a lot of situations. We therefore expect to be ready for anything that we may not currently anticipate but are nonetheless planning for just in case it does occur.
Jimmy Kimmel, who will be hosting in 2023, has promised to “beat the s-t out of” anyone who engages in violent humor while in his presence.
Flashback to infamy
Smith, 54, stormed the stage during the live transmission of 2022 and smacked Rock after the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Smith reacted physically when Rock, 58, likened her to Demi Moore’s bald character “G.I. Jane,” who has alopecia and shaved her head last summer.
“Don’t you f-king dare mention the name of my wife!” Smith then went back to his position and yelled twice.
On Saturday’s stand-up live broadcast, Rock commented on Smith’s ferocious response several times.
The comedian claimed Smith was angry about his wife’s relationship with singer August Alsina from May to December, which the couple subsequently discussed on her online “Red Table Talk” show.
Rock referred to Smith as being “called a b-h” by everyone in the globe. “Everybody. Everybody. Also, who did he hit? Me. A n—a he is confident he can defeat. That is some terrible stuff.
“F-king everyone knows. Yes! It took place. I got hit about a year ago,” he claimed. “This motherf—ker smacked me in the f-king Oscars!”
People often ask, “Did it hurt? Even now, it aches! I can’t stop hearing “Summertime” in my head! Rock continued by mentioning Smith’s 1991 hip-hop hit with erstwhile bandmate DJ Jazzy Jeff.
“But darling, I’m not a victim. I will never be seen weeping on Oprah or Gayle [King]

After loud shouts and applause from the crowd, Rock bragged, “No. It won’t ever take place. No, that’s s-t. Like Manny Pacquiao, a former professional boxer, I absorbed that blow.
A little over an hour after the slap, Smith won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in “King Richard,” and the crowd even gave him a standing ovation.
Following the controversy over his acts, Smith has since resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
He was also prohibited from going to any Academy functions for the following ten years.
