It appears that the Certified Lover Boy wishes he had discussed his romantic setbacks in a different way.

In a recent interview with Lil Yachty, Drake talked about how he now regrets how he has exposed his ex-girlfriends in his songs. Furthermore, he made a point of mentioning how one ex-partner in particular made him reconsider the potential impact of his lyrics on their relationships. It goes without saying that this was the same interview in which the 6 God discussed making a “graceful exit” from the rap game (don’t panic, it hasn’t happened yet). With that in mind, it’s possible that the Canadian icon is thinking about the various ways in which his legacy will persist and what he can do right away to firmly establish it the way he wants to.

In reference to his song “Weston Road Flows,” he said, “I detest hearing that st, especially a line where he said he’d retire at 35. Additionally, he now considers the declaration to be rather ageist. “ The other night, I heard it. I believe that and occasionally when I’ve used girls’ names in songs, those are the two things that I look back on and say, “Maybe I coulda done without, like, s*t on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life.” I once had someone tell me, “You know, it’s not exactly what you’re saying about me, it’s the fact that you said it. The lyrics are never written with bad intent.

He also explained how talking to his ex-girlfriend made him consider what other effects his drinks might have. You have no idea what it does to me, just in that way. You have no idea who my partner was at the time, and you have no idea whether or not my family is aware of it. And if you sing about me by name and show any sign of dissatisfaction with me, all of a sudden I’m left to pick up the pieces of the existence I’ve worked so hard to create for myself. I’ve made every effort to cease doing that. However, I also value honesty in music, so there’s a push and draw there.

While Drizzy frequently discusses retirement, these relationship concerns are a recent development (at least publicly). He claimed that the most thrilling thing in the world is still the release of music in an interview with Nicki Minaj on her Queen Radio program in August 2022. He admitted to Onika, “I’m not at that stage where I even consider that as an option. “Completing a song or endeavor is one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced in my life. These activities are painful as well, by the way. There were many nerves and trembling faith. But I think my degree of fun has increased.
