A brand-new virtual reality program in the vein of ABBA Voyage might center on David Bowie.

The ‘Starman’ singer passed away from cancer in 2016 at the age of 69, but fans may be able to relive his legendary stage presence thanks to plans to create a digital avatar of the legendary performer. This would be in the tradition of the ‘Super Trooper’ hitmakers, whose digital likenesses have been making appearances in London since last May.

The possibility of how that might be accomplished is being investigated, a source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper. “The notion of being able to recreate David’s charisma and electric showmanship for an audience is an intoxicating one. It’s an extremely thrilling moment.

And director of the 2022 Bowie picture “Moonage Daydream,” Brett Morgen, believes it would be a very “interesting” strategy.

“Voyage was one of the best cinematic encounters I’ve ever had,” he said. Could one be made for Bowie? I believe there could be some intriguing developments in the future.

Bowie’s 80,000-strong archive, which includes handwritten lyrics, letters, sheet music, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, and the “Heroes” singer’s own instruments, will be put on public display for the first time in 2025, according to information released earlier this week.

The David Bowie Centre for the Study of Performing Arts at V+A East Storehouse in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will also serve as a permanent memorial to the late music icon.

The V+A’s director, Dr. Tristram Hunt, issued the following statement: “One of the best musicians and performers of all time was David Bowie. The V+A is overjoyed to have custody of his amazing collection and to be able to make it accessible to the public. From Berlin to Tokyo to London, Bowie’s radical innovations in music, theater, film, fashion, and style continue to have an impact on design and visual culture and motivate artists like Lady Gaga, Tilda Swinton, Janelle Monáe, and Raf Simons.

“V+A East Storehouse, our new collections center, is the perfect setting to bring Bowie’s work in conversation with the V+A’s collection, which spans 5,000 years of art, design, and performance.

My sincere gratitude is extended to the David Bowie Trust, the Blavatnik Family Foundation, and Warner Music Group for making this possible and for creating a new reference work for future Bowies!
