For Blake Shelton, it works the 23rd time.
The upcoming 23rd season of “The Voice” will feature the country singer’s final stint as a mentor before he departs the program. He has made his impact by winning a record nine times, including last season, and is the only artist to serve as a coach for every season of the popular show.
The “God’s Country” performer said he started considering leaving during the pandemic. He and wife and former coach Gwen Stefani met while competing on “The Voice.”
In an interview with fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Chance the Rapper that aired on TODAY on February 27, he said, “I believe I was close to calling it a day right when COVID struck.” Carson Daly, the presenter and producer of “The Voice,” also works for TODAY.
Then, because of COVID, I didn’t want to quit the program and leave everyone in a difficult situation. My life was changed by this program. I’ll remain here until things return to some semblance of normalcy.
Shelton made light of the possibility that one item might keep him on the show.
He jokingly said, “I’d like Kelly (Clarkson) to leave the program.”
In general, he continued, “I just believe there’s too much Kelly Clarkson on television.”
Shelton understands that “The Voice” has had an effect on both his personal and professional lives, even though he may be leaving.
He said, “I met my wife on this program. It has altered my existence in every way imaginable from a personal perspective.
Shelton stated that the program “shifted the course” of his own professional life.
“When I joined this show as a coach, I mean, my entire world was flipped upside down, “stated Shelton. “And I mean that in a good sense. Although this has been amazing, the time has come, you know. Even what comes after now is time. It would be great to have some downtime.
Horan and Chance the Rapper, who are both eager to contribute their expertise to the game, have a veteran presence this season in Shelton and Clarkson.
He claimed that he had simply “gone for them accents that kind of make you feel something, a bit of the storyteller kind of vibe going on.” Once you start to get chills, press the button.
Clarkson also makes a comeback as a judge after missing the previous season. She claims it was satisfying to return.
I certainly missed the team rehearsals, she admitted. “I like to break down songs and then alter them slightly to make them my own. Therefore, I find the entire procedure to be fascinating and fun.
When the 23rd season of “The Voice” debuts on NBC on March 6 at 8 p.m. ET, you can see if Clarkson, Chance the Rapper, or Horan succeed to sabotage Shelton’s final performance.
