Brittney Griner has resumed playing hoops after a gruesome ten-month ordeal in a Russian prison.

Griner will represent the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA in the upcoming season, it was revealed over the weekend.

A source verified to ESPN that Griner, a 32-year-old free agent, signed a one-year, $165,100 contract with the Mercury on Saturday. She will spend her tenth season with the club that selected her first overall in 2013.

Griner last donned a Mercury uniform in 2021, when she inspired them to a surprising run to the WNBA Finals, where Phoenix was defeated by the Chicago Sky. Because of her imprisonment in Russia, she missed the 2022 WNBA season.

Griner will play her first game of the season on May 19 when the Mercury take on the Los Angeles Sparks in Los Angeles.

Pictures of Griner exercising on the court appeared online on Tuesday, and she didn’t have her unmistakable dreadlocks to be seen.

Griner left this message in the locker area and now he seems prepared to return to the court.
