In his legal battle regarding the murder of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Alec Baldwin achieved a significant triumph.

The “30 Rock” alum was charged with a crime that, if found guilty, would have resulted in a five-year sentence, but the Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office stated on Monday that it is dropping the charge.

Baldwin, 64, is still charged with involuntary manslaughter for the killing, which if found guilty carries a sentence of only 18 months.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, was also exonerated of the allegation of gun enhancement.

According to ABC News, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said in a statement that the firearm enhancement to the involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Halyna Hutchins on the “Rust” film set had been removed. This was done to avoid further litigious distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys.

The pursuit of justice, not accruing billable hours for big-city lawyers, is the prosecution’s top priority.

Baldwin used the gun to perform the crime, according to the gun enhancement charge. However, this can only be upheld if the gun was pointed at someone with the intent to harm them, according to New Mexico legislation in effect at the time of the shooting.

The producer of the movie, Joel Souza, was also hurt, but the DA decided not to press charges for his wounds.

The “Dr. Death” actor insisted that he did not fire the pistol on the set, denying any involvement in Hutchins’ passing.

According to sources, the accusation against Baldwin was “a terrible miscarriage of justice,” according to Baldwin’s counsel Luke Nikas.

The attorney stated, “Mr. Baldwin had no reason to think there was a live bullet in the gun—or anywhere on the movie set. He trusted the experts with whom he worked when they told him the pistol didn’t contain live rounds.

He continued, “We will battle these charges, and we will prevail.

Despite Hutchins’ passing and Baldwin’s accusations, “Rust” filming will pick back up in the spring.

In a press release obtained by E! News last week, Souza stated, “Although bittersweet, I am thankful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team joining former cast and crew are committed to finishing what Halyna and I began.”

“I will give this movie everything I’ve got to respect Halyna’s memory and make her happy. It is an honor to carry this out on her behalf.

According to their October 2022 agreement with Baldwin, Hutchins’ husband Matthew Hutchins will join the team as an executive producer, and Bianca Cline will take over as the film’s cinematographer.

In order to guarantee that there are no “working weapons” or “any type of ammunition” on set, the production has also added safety officers Gary Jensen and Paul Jordan to the team.
