Dion, The Rock And Roll Legend, Strikes A Catalog Deal With Reservoir

Dion Francis DiMucci, also known as Dion, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll and Grammy Halls of Fame, has a new deal with Reservoir Media.

According to the business, the agreement includes synchronization rights to Dion’s recorded masters as well as his full publishing history and upcoming works.

Dion has recorded almost 40 albums and amassed 11 Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 songs in addition to 39 Top 40 hits.

After publishing its fiscal Q2 2023 (calendar Q3 2022) earnings for the three months ending in September, Reservoir announced its agreement with Dion two months later. During this time, the company generated $33.3 million, an increase of 10% YoY.

Reservoir purchased assets in calendar Q3 2022, including the publishing portfolio of swing star Louis Prima and Voice of Beirut, a Lebanese label and music publisher, for unknown sums (alongside PopArabia). In its entire fiscal year 2023, the US-based company says it plans to spend $100 million on “strategic M&A.”

Golnar Khosrowshahi, the founder and CEO of Reservoir, said on a conference call with analysts in November that her company was “pleased by the quality and volume of deals we executed in the past few months as we continue to make progress against our capital deployment goal of $100 million for strategic M&A in fiscal year 2023”.

The current fiscal year of Reservoir Media runs through the end of March 2023. In its prior fiscal year, the corporation spent $224 million on the purchase of music licenses (to end of March 2022).

Dion, a Bronx native, combined doo-wop, pop, rock, R&B, folk, and blues; he is credited for helping “usher in the age of American rock and roll” by Reservoir.

He was admitted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

Before pursuing a solo career, Dion first achieved prominence as the lead singer of Dion and the Belmonts.

Due to the success of songs like Runaround Sue, The Wanderer, Ruby Baby, Dream Lover, and others, his fame rose in the 1950s and 1960s.

Runaround Sue helped Dion get into the Grammy Hall of Fame and peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100. On the Hot 100, The Wanderer peaked at No. 2.

Two of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, according to Rolling Stone, are Runaround Sue and The Wanderer.

Dion is still touring and releasing new music today. He received his second Grammy nomination for his 2006 recording, Bronx in Blue.

His album Stomping Ground, which featured rock & roll legends like Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Bruce Springsteen, Mark Knopfler, and others, was released in 2021.

A pre-Broadway performance of the musical The Wanderer, which is based on Dion’s life and the difficulties he overcome, was also performed at the Paper Mill Playhouse in April 2022.
