Trevor Bauer’s time with the Los Angeles Dodgers is finally ended. The pitcher has been released, and the Dodgers must pay his remaining $22.5 million in order for him to leave.
The Dodgers attempted to move Bauer by the afternoon deadline on Thursday (Jan. 12), but were unable to find a trade partner, resulting in his release.
Bauer’s last appearance was in 2021. He was dropped in the middle of the season after being accused of sexual assault. Months later, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred handed down a 324-game ban to Bauer, which was later reduced to 194 games and immediate reinstatement after a grievance was filed.
Bauer was the target of a domestic violence restraining order request by a 27-year-old San Diego woman after signing a $100 million contract in February 2021. The woman said she was assaulted twice at his house during separate sexual encounters. Bauer maintained his innocence, and the matter of a permanent restraining order against him was dismissed, as were criminal proceedings, in February 2022.
According to ESPN, Bauer will be fined 50 games of compensation when the 2023 season begins.
