Drake and Lupe Fiasco have a troubled history that has been well-documented throughout the years.
Each of them has respect for the other’s skill. However, there have also allegedly been a few subliminal messages embedded in songs.
Lupe Fiasco now seems to be willing to put a test on their mutual admiration for one another. He says he wants them to write a song together.
It all started when a fan tweeted on Monday (December 19) that they wanted to hear Drake and the “Kick, Push” rapper collaborate on a song. Lupe then retorted with the words “Me three…” in a quote tweet.
Lupe has already performed freestyles over Drake songs at least twice. He rapped over Drizzy and Travis Scott’s 2018 collaboration, “Sicko Mode.”
More recently, he recorded “Diet Soda Poetry,” a cover of the “Champagne Poetry” instrumental. He pays respect to Certified Lover Boy artist Drake by rapping, “Just left album mode with me and my n**a Trakk / and Drake dropped this sht, got me thinking about going back.”
Additionally, on his debut album, Room for Improvement, the 6 God rapped over the 40-year-well-known old’s “Kick, Push” instrumental.
However, Drake appeared to poke fun at the Chicagoan when rapping on his 2015 b-side, “5 Am in Toronto.” “It’s hilarious when you think a na blew up after Lupe / Ns treat me like I’ve been here for 10 / Some n***s been here for a couple, never been here again,” the Toronto star raps.
Lupe, though, offered his perspective in a 2020 interview with Rob Markman for Genius. The general agreement now appears to be that it was praise rather than what was initially perceived as a subtle jab at him. In the interview, he says, “I can just tell you that Drake has a lot of regard for me and I have a lot of respect for Drake.
In addition, the rapper from DRILL MUSIC IN ZION defended Champagne Papi during his dispute with Pusha T. He specifically came out in opposition to Pusha’s selection of the album cover for his infamous diss track, “The Story of Adidon.” In the image, Drake is wearing a black face.
The 40-year-old appears to defend the cover art in other tweets that have since been deleted. “Yes, there are two images of six people wearing blackface… The image that Pusha is using as the cover is attached to another image but has been cropped. The one you saw is joyful; the other is gloomy and depressing. Together, they genuinely demonstrate a potent dichotomy of race, representation, and expectations for art,” he stated.
Lupe’s tweet teasering the partnership sparked a number of intriguing responses on social media.
