Drake reportedly lost a wager on the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday worth $1 million (£822,000).

Rapper Hotline Bling disclosed over the weekend that he had bet on Argentina defeating France in the Qatari championship final. Drake apparently didn’t get paid even though the team won on Sunday because Argentina’s success came in the penalty shootouts.

Drake “placed a wager in a market where extra time is ignored and the outcome is judged using the score after 90 minutes of play,” according to Vulture.

Argentina and France drew 2-2 in the traditional match’s last minutes, and after 30 minutes of extra time, they were deadlocked 3-3. This resulted in penalties. The decisive shootouts saw Argentina prevail 4-2.

The God’s Plan hitmaker would have made $2.75 million (£2.3 million) if Argentina had triumphed in the traditional game, representing a $1.75 million (£1.4 million) profit.

On Saturday night, Drake released a screenshot of his wager along with a video of him discussing it with a friend.

In the since-deleted tape, Drake claimed, “I’ll take Argentina, he’ll take France.” The atmosphere will be, “We’ll make that happen.”

The devoted sportsbettor and gambler gambled on the cryptocurrency casino Stake, with which he had earlier this year formed a partnership.
